There are so many factors involved in childhood illness (especially cancer), I guess that it makes sense that it makes you a different person even if you don’t remember much (or any) of it. The chemo and other medications obviously effect your body in its most formative stage, the obvious trauma of hospitalization, and the difference in the way parents/peers perceive you (for your whole life? just then?). I know you would disagree with my phrasing of this, but in some sense, it feels like alien cells can just take over your body and completely alter your destiny. Sounds a little like Startrek, in a difficult way.
